on Duncansby Head, Caithness |

The
John O'Groats Puffins can be found on Duncansby Head Cliffs and
Stacks a short distance east from John O'Groats village. They
arrive during April and lay their eggs in burrows that they dig with
their large colourful bills in May. By the beginning of August
they have flown back out to sea not to return to land until next
breeding season.
Duncansby
Head is the most north easterly corner of the British mainland
and is one of the best places to view Puffins during the
breeding season. There is free parking and easy, safe cliff top
access from the lighthouse round to the 'Stacks of Duncansby'.
which are impressive rock features that are teeming with nesting
sea birds. Wild life cruises are available from John O'Groats
harbour during the summer and are the best way to see Puffins
close up.
